How Minnesota Teachers Save $500+ a Year on Lifestyle & Travel

79+ Years of Stewardship for the Essential Educator

Since January 7, 1947, State Employees Inc (SEI) has stood as a bastion of support for those who build the foundation of our democracy: our educators. In an era where the weight of inflation often outpaces the recognition of sacrifice, we remain dedicated to the financial security and family enrichment of Minnesota’s teaching force.

For the stewards of our classrooms: members of Education Minnesota, the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (Local 59), and the St. Paul Federation of Educators (Local 28): membership in SEI is more than a discount program; it is a legacy of collective empowerment. For a nominal commitment of just $5 per year, active educators unlock a meticulously curated ecosystem of lifestyle and travel benefits designed to yield an annual return on investment exceeding $500.

The Legacy Era: Institutional Strength and Visionary Savings

8,000+ Members | $1,000+ Average Annual Potential Savings

The history of SEI is one of unwavering integrity. As a 501(c)(7) nonprofit, governed by a 100% volunteer Board of Directors, membership revenue supports the expansion of member value. We recognize that 37% of the essential workforce cannot cover a unexpected $400 emergency. Our mission is to ensure that Minnesota teachers are never part of that statistic.

★ The Tiered Commitment to Our Members

▸ Active Essential Educators: $5 per year.
▸ Retired Stewards of Learning: $20 one-time payment for LIFETIME membership.
▸ Legacy Partners: Free access for Board and Team roles.

Travel & Recreation: Honoring the Need for Restoration

Conceptual imagery of educator life blending with the joy of family travel

The calling of a teacher is one of immense emotional and intellectual labor. Restoration is not a luxury; it is a necessity for continued service. Through our exclusive member benefits, educators gain access to the "Gold Standard" of travel and recreation.

The Disney World & Universal Orlando Collection

Through our partnership with Tickets at Work, SEI members gain access to preferred pricing on Walt Disney World® Resort and Universal Orlando Resort™ tickets. For a family of four, the savings on a multi-day pass frequently exceed $200: forty times the cost of the annual SEI membership. This allows our educators to create lifelong memories with their families without compromising their financial stewardship.

Regional Gems: Mall of America & Beyond

Local enrichment is vital to the Minnesota lifestyle. Our members enjoy significant reductions in cost at:

  • SEA LIFE® Minnesota Aquarium: Deeply discounted entry for educators and their families at the Mall of America.
  • Renaissance Festival Passes: Access to the annual heritage celebration at preferred rates.
  • YMCA Wellness: Preferred access to fitness and community programming to maintain the health of our workforce.

Beyond the grand scale of international travel, SEI focuses on the "everyday impact." We understand that teacher discounts in Minnesota should reflect the reality of household budgets. By leveraging our growing network of business partners, educators can systematically reduce their monthly expenditures.

★ The Pillars of Daily Savings

▸ Wellness & Self-Care: Partnerships with local beauty spas and salons ensure that those who care for our children also have the opportunity to care for themselves.
▸ Retail & Dining: A revolving door of local Minnesota and Wisconsin vendors offering 10-20% discounts to SEI cardholders.
▸ Debt Reduction & Fiscal Health: Through our relationship with Afford Today (a program of the Foundation for American Service), members can access savings education tools and hardship relief grants during times of unforeseen crisis.

The Strategic Alliance: Education Minnesota and SEI

We acknowledge the tireless work of Education Minnesota and its local federations. While union dues provide critical legal and professional protection, SEI serves as a complementary force, focusing strictly on the lifestyle and financial health of the individual teacher.

Our About Us records show that we have functioned as a silent partner to public servants for nearly eight decades. Whether you are a veteran educator in Duluth or a first-year teacher in St. Paul, the SEI membership is designed to be the most affordable, highest-impact benefit in your professional portfolio.

The Rebuilding Era: Safeguarding Your Future

The architecture of wellness and institutional support for Minnesota teachers

As we move further into 2026, the challenges of inflation remain persistent. However, the vision of SEI is to provide a "fiscally sponsored sanctuary" for the essential workforce. We invite all licensed teachers, school staff, and university faculty to claim their place in our community.

How to Secure Your Membership

  1. Verification: Educators are invited to verify their status via ID.me on our secure portal.
  2. Investment: Complete the $5 annual contribution (or $20 for lifetime retiree access).
  3. Access: Immediately unlock the digital portal containing Disney, SeaLife, and local partner vouchers.

"To the educators who build the intellect and character of our state: Your sacrifice is seen, your legacy is honored, and your financial security is our highest mission."
